Independent Manchester United Supporters Association

The Independent Manchester United Supporters Association (IMUSA) is an organisation linked to Manchester United football club, based in Manchester, England.

The group is independent of the club. Its primary aim is to represent the interests of the club's supporters, and facilitate lines of communication between the supporters and the directors of the club. The organization was formed in April 1995 as a protest group against official club policies regarding standing during a match.

The group have been opposed to foreign ownership of the club, opposing both the unnsucessful takeover attempt by Rupert Murdoch, and the later successful takeover by the current owners, the Glazer family. The group has also opposed rising ticket prices which they believe make the club's games inaccessible to the "true" owners, the supporters.

Famous quotes containing the words independent, manchester, united, supporters and/or association:

There are two kinds of timidity—timidity of mind, and timidity of the nerves; physical timidity, and moral timidity. Each is independent of the other. The body may be frightened and quake while the mind remains calm and bold, and vice versë. This is the key to many eccentricities of conduct. When both kinds meet in the same man he will be good for nothing all his life.
    Honoré De Balzac (1799–1850)

The [nineteenth-century] young men who were Puritans in politics were anti-Puritans in literature. They were willing to die for the independence of Poland or the Manchester Fenians; and they relaxed their tension by voluptuous reading in Swinburne.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)

In the United States, it is now possible for a person eighteen years of age, female as well as male, to graduate from high school, college, or university without ever having cared for, or even held, a baby; without ever having comforted or assisted another human being who really needed help. . . . No society can long sustain itself unless its members have learned the sensitivities, motivations, and skills involved in assisting and caring for other human beings.
    Urie Bronfenbrenner (b. 1917)

The hydra of corruption is only scotched, not dead. An investigation kills and it and its supporters dead. Let this be had.
    Andrew Jackson (1767–1845)

An association of men who will not quarrel with one another is a thing which has never yet existed, from the greatest confederacy of nations down to a town meeting or a vestry.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
