Sports
The AHIGS Sporting Committee (IGSSA) organises competitions among 29 independent girls' schools in New South Wales. Secondary school girls compete in team and individual sports at school level and may be selected through IGSSA for state teams and other higher competitions. IGSSA works with each member school's physical education and sport programme by providing interschool competition from beginners to elite level.
IGSSA graded competitions are held on Saturday mornings and involve between 5000 to 6300 participants each term. Students may choose one Saturday sport per term:
- Term One
- Softball
- Tennis
- Term Two
- Basketball
- Soccer
- Term Three
- Netball
- Hockey
- Term Four
- Waterpolo
- Cricket

Famous quotes containing the word sports:
“It was so hard to pry this door open, and if I mess up I know the people behind me are going to have it that much harder. Because then theres living proof. They can sit around and say, See? It doesnt work. I dont want to be their living proof.”
—Gayle Gardner, U.S. sports reporter. As quoted in Sports Illustrated, p. 87 (June 17, 1991)
“I looked so much like a guy you couldnt tell if I was a boy or a girl. I had no hair, I wore guys clothes, I walked like a guy ... [ellipsis in source] I didnt do anything right except sports. I was a social dropout, but sports was a way I could be acceptable to other kids and to my family.”
—Karen Logan (b. 1949)
“It is usual for a Man who loves Country Sports to preserve the Game in his own Grounds, and divert himself upon those that belong to his Neighbour.”
—Joseph Addison (16721719)
