Famous Productions

The world-famous German director, Peter Stein, directed a landmark production of Im Dickicht der Städte at the Munich Kammerspiele in 1968, when he was Assistant Director there, and before Stein founded the very influential Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer in West Berlin a few years later. Dieter Laser – famous to English speaking audiences for his role as Dr. Josef Heiter in The Human Centipede (2010) – starred as Collie Couch, thereby making his debut in film.

Al Pacino starred in a short-lived production at the Circle in the Square Theatre in New York in 1979, directed by famous Romanian director Liviu Ciulei.

Judith Malina directed a Living Theatre production of the play in New York, opening on 16 December 1960. In October 1991, Ruth Berghaus directed the play at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg as part of a series of 'related texts', as she called them (which also included Büchner's Danton's Death).

Famous quotes containing the words famous and/or productions:

    Many famous feet have trod
    Sublunary paths, and famous hands have weighed
    The strength they have against the strength they need;
    And famous lips interrogated God
    Concerning franchise in eternity....
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)

    It is well known, that the best productions of the best human intellects, are generally regarded by those intellects as mere immature freshman exercises, wholly worthless in themselves, except as initiatives for entering the great University of God after death.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)
