In A Glass Darkly

In a Glass Darkly is a collection of five short stories by Sheridan Le Fanu, first published in 1872, the year before his death. The second and third are revised versions of previously published stories, and the fourth and fifth are long enough to be called novellas.

The title is taken from 1 Corinthians 13, a deliberate misquotation of the passage which describes humanity as perceiving the world "through a glass darkly".

Famous quotes containing the words glass and/or darkly:

People who, out of an inborn moderation, leave every glass standing only half-emptied refuse to admit that everything in the world has its sediments and dregs.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

‘No, go I must, they’re calling
    me.’
    ‘Who are they?’
    Rising he said “Some
day you’ll know. They’re calling to you
too.’ Darkly he rose, and then I slept.
    Frank O’Hara (1926–1966)
