How Petty Cash Imprest System Works
The imprest system ensures that you must document how the petty cash is spent. In a petty cash system, petty cash receipts are written for each amount issued. So, when all of these receipts are totalled at the end of the month and deducted from the opening petty cash float, the calculated value must agree with what is left in the petty cash float. Under the imprest system, only that which is recorded as spent is replenished. Any shortfalls may have to be replenished by the guardian, usually a bookkeeper, of the petty cash float from their own personal resources.

Famous quotes containing the words petty, cash, system and/or works:
“Be reflective ... and stay away from the theater as much as you can. Stay out of the theatrical world, out of its petty interests, its inbreeding tendencies, its stifling atmosphere, its corroding influence. Once become theatricalized, and you are lost, my friend; you are lost.”
—Minnie Maddern Fiske (18651932)
“Lora May: Did you ever stop to think, Porter, that in over three years theres one word weve never said to each other, even in fun.
Porter: To you, Im a cash register. You cant love a cash register.
Lora May: And Im part of your inventory. You cant love that either.”
—Joseph L. Mankiewicz (19091993)
“The dominant metaphor of conceptual relativism, that of differing points of view, seems to betray an underlying paradox. Different points of view make sense, but only if there is a common co-ordinate system on which to plot them; yet the existence of a common system belies the claim of dramatic incomparability.”
—Donald Davidson (b. 1917)
“We do not fear censorship for we have no wish to offend with improprieties or obscenities, but we do demand, as a right, the liberty to show the dark side of wrong, that we may illuminate the bright side of virtuethe same liberty that is conceded to the art of the written word, that art to which we owe the Bible and the works of Shakespeare.”
