Iganga District - Overview

Overview

The district is situated in southeastern Uganda, about 25 kilometres (16 mi) to the north of Lake Victoria. Iganga District lies at an altitude of about 1,138 metres (3,734 ft) above sea level and just north of the Equator. The district is bisected by the main highway through East Africa from Kenya to the Ugandan capital Kampala and the Central African countries of Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Iganga district is part of Busoga sub-region, home to an estimated 2.5 million people in 2002, according to the national census.
