Ichirō Ozawa - Indictment

Indictment

On 31 January 2011, Ozawa was indicted over a controversial land purchase made by his political funds organization. The indictment was expected to increase calls by other DPJ lawmakers for Ozawa to resign from the party. Ozawa didn't resign from the party over the matter, although he did later leave to form the People's Life First party. He was eventually acquitted of the charges in the Tokyo District Court, and after prosecutors appealed the case to the High Court he was also acquitted there.
