HW Layer: The Physical SGPIO Bus and Signal Definitions
The SGPIO signal consists of 4 electrical signals. It originates (or is driven by) an initiator (typically a host bus adapter/HBA or SAS Expander) and arrives at a target (typically a backplane).
Signal | Transmitter | Description |
---|---|---|
SClock | Initiator | Clock Signal |
SLoad | Initiator | Last clock of a bit stream; begin a new bit stream on the next clock |
SataOut* | Initiator | Serial data output bit stream |
SataIn | Target | Serial data input bit stream. SDataIn may not be supported by all SGPIO devices |
The SGPIO is typically used in conjunction with SAS or SATA cables, where each physical port is attached to a single disk drive.

Famous quotes containing the words physical, bus, signal and/or definitions:
“My vocabulary dwells deep in my mind and needs paper to wriggle out into the physical zone. Spontaneous eloquence seems to me a miracle. I have rewrittenoften several timesevery word I have ever published. My pencils outlast their erasers.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
“Nora was always free with it and threw her heart away as if it was a used bus ticket.”
—Angela Carter (19401992)
“By day thy warning ringing bell to sound its notes,
By night thy silent signal lamps to swing.”
—Walt Whitman (18191892)
“The loosening, for some people, of rigid role definitions for men and women has shown that dads can be great at calming babiesif they take the time and make the effort to learn how. Its that time and effort that not only teaches the dad how to calm the babies, but also turns him into a parent, just as the time and effort the mother puts into the babies turns her into a parent.”
—Pamela Patrick Novotny (20th century)
