Early Life and Education
Ian Plimer grew up in Sydney and attended Normanhurst Boys' High School. He earned a B.Sc. (Hons) in mining engineering at the University of New South Wales in 1968, and a Ph.D. at Macquarie University in 1976. His doctoral thesis was titled, The pipe deposits of tungsten-molybdenum-bismuth in eastern Australia.
