Hyperion Airship

Hyperion Airship

The Hyperion is a fictional 1907 French airship, originally featured in the 1974 Walt Disney film The Island at the Top of the World. The airship appears for only a relatively small portion of the overall length of the film, but plays a prominent role, both as a memorable set piece and in the film’s plot line. The Hyperion was featured prominently in all film promotional materials.

The Hyperion also refers to a gigantic, life-size airship model incorporated into the high ceiling of the Videopolis Theatre and café complex in Disneyland Park near Paris. On opening in 1992, the Hyperion Café was Europe’s largest fast food restaurant. Moreover, at the time the Hyperion airship was the largest prop ever built for a theme park.
