Yasser's father was an Egyptian footballer who transferred to Qatar as a coach for Al-Khor and subsequently Yasser was born in Qatar. He is registered by FIFA as a Qatari and not an Egyptian national. His brothers are also footballers. His youngest brother, Ahmed Yasser, plays for the Qatar Under-20 team. Mohammed Yasser, his older brother, is a former national player and currently plays for Umm Salal.
