The shrine of Hussain Tekri was built by the Nawab of Jaora, Mohammad Iftikhar Ali Khan Bahadur, in the 19th century. It is situated on the outskirts of Jaora town in the Ratlam district of Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh, India.
Mohammad Iftikhar Ali Khan Bahadur was buried in the same graveyard where Hussain Tekri is built. During the month of Moharram, thousands of people from all over the world visit the shrines of Hazrat Imam Hussain here, which is a true replica of the ones in Iraq. The place is famous for the rituals called Hajri to cure the incurable mental sicknesses.
However the history of this place is not very clear and precise but according to the widely held belief, One night, few horse riders were seen at this place, where presently the shrine is located and it was assumed that souls of martyrs of karbala were riding the horses, since it was the same day, when Imam Hussain (r.a) embraced shahadat at karbala, so the locals of the area built the shrine. It is also believed that a water pond was also created overnight, which never existed before. Barelvis, shia and Hindus visit the shrine to get relief from jinns, ghosts and demons, believing that all such creatures ultimately surrender before the shrine and leave the bodies of the victims.
This place has a very long history of curing the incurable. People have been raising eyebrows nowadays over the genuineness of this place. Chellum (40th from Aashura) is a prime occasion where hundreds of thousands people gather to seek refuge from Hazrat Ali Ibn Abu Talib. Curing people from the damned & possessed spirits has been the mainframe of work here. Thus, Hussain Tekri is considered to be the spiritual hospital in the world. This holy place has 6 shrines in its vicinity. From the entrance, Hazrat Fatima Al Zehra (daughter of our Prophet Mohammed), Imam Al-Hussain (son of Hazrat Ali), Hazrat Zaynab (daughter of Hazrat Ali), Hazrat Al-Abbas (son of Hazrat Ali), Hazrat Sakina (daughter of Imam Hussain) and Imam Al-Ali (son of Abu Talib and cousin, son-in-law of our Prophet Mohammed).
