Hurt (Christina Aguilera Song)

"Hurt" is a song by American recording artist Christina Aguilera. It was written by Aguilera, Linda Perry and Mark Ronson for Aguilera's third studio album, Back to Basics (2006). RCA Records released it as the second single from the album in late 2006 (see 2006 in music). The song's lyrical content describes how one deals with the loss of a loved one, and it has received praise from pop music critics. Perry developed the first draft of the song while Aguilera rewrote some of the lyrics, but the final version is a tribute to the pair's symbiotic teamwork.

"Hurt" was a major hit in Europe, peaking in the top 5 in eleven countries. In the US, it was a moderate hit peaking at number 19 on Hot 100 and number 10 on Pop chart. It has sold over 1.1 million digital copies there. The single has sold 4 millions copies worldwide. A music video for the song was directed by Floria Sigismondi and Aguilera herself, and shows a circus inspired by the 20s and 30s. The song has been performed by Aguilera in her Back to Basics Tour and live performances, including a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006.

Why, even when I was innocent her hatred of me hurt a good deal. Now that I’m guilty, her belief in me would hurt even more.
