Storm Names
The following names were used for named storms that formed in the north Atlantic in 1980. The names not retired from this list were used again in the 1986 season. It was the first use for all of these names since the post-1978 naming change, except Frances which was used in 1961, 1968, and 1976. Names that were not assigned are marked in gray. The World Meteorological Organization retired one name in the spring of 1981: Allen. It was replaced by Andrew in 1986.

Famous quotes containing the words storm and/or names:
“I cannot think this creature died
By storm or fish or sea-fowl harmed
Walking the sea so heavily armed;
Or does it make for death to be
Oneself a living armoury?”
—Andrew Young (18851971)
“Well then, its Granny speaking: I dunnow!
Mebbe Im wrong to take it as I do.
There aint no names quite like the old ones, though,
Nor never will be to my way of thinking.
One mustnt bear too hard on the newcomers,
But theres a dite too many of them for comfort....”
—Robert Frost (18741963)
