Hunde Language

The Hunde are an ethnolinguistic group of about 200,000 people (as of 1980) located in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Hunde live in the province of Nord-Kivu and the regions of Masisi and Rutshuru. The language of the Hunde is Kihunde, and alternate names are Kobi and Rukobi. The history of the Hunde since national independence has been bound up with that of the Kinyarwanda-speaking population in the region, including the recent First and Second Congo Wars.

Famous quotes containing the word language:

The “sayings” of a community, its proverbs, are its characteristic comment upon life; they imply its history, suggest its attitude toward the world and its way of accepting life. Such an idiom makes the finest language any writer can have; and he can never get it with a notebook. He himself must be able to think and feel in that speech—it is a gift from heart to heart.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
