Discrimination- Attacks On Albino People

Ongoing in Tanzania is the killing and mutilation of people that suffer from albinism. The continued mutilation of albino people is driven by a belief that albino body parts will bring wealth to these people. Witch doctors whom believe the witchcraft is more powerful if the victim screams during the amputation cherish these albino body parts. These victims are alive throughout the whole amputation, which results in a pain driven death. “Prosecutions are rarely successful with only five known cases of convictions out of the 72 murders of people with albinism documented in Tanzania since 2000”. These attacks of mutilation do not only target an adult who have albinism but also kids of any age. “The Tanzanian authorities have the primary responsibility to protect people with albinism and to fight against impunity, which is a key component for prevention and deterrence of the crimes targeting this exceptionally vulnerable community.”

Famous quotes containing the words attacks and/or people:

We are seeing an increasing level of attacks on the “selfishness” of women. There are allegations that all kinds of social ills, from runaway children to the neglected elderly, are due to the fact that women have left their “rightful” place in the home. Such arguments are simplistic and wrongheaded but women are especially vulnerable to the accusation that if society has problems, it’s because women aren’t nurturing enough.
    Grace Baruch (20th century)

It is not too much to say that next after the passion to learn there is no quality so indispensable to the successful prosecution of science as imagination. Find me a people whose early medicine is not mixed up with magic and incantations, and I will find you a people devoid of all scientific ability.
    Charles Sanders Peirce (1839–1914)
