Huambo Province - Water and Sanitation

Water and Sanitation

In Huambo, the main water treatment plant has not functioned properly since 1975 and the 400 km of water pipes are in poor condition. The population is currently dependent on wells for water access. During recent years, considerable work in the sector was undertaken by the Government and humanitarian agencies, including construction of 550 family latrines and 25 wells in villages and communities.

Famous quotes containing the words water and and/or water:

    The point of the dragonfly’s terrible lip, the giant water bug, birdsong, or the beautiful dazzle and flash of sunlighted minnows, is not that it all fits together like clockwork--for it doesn’t ... but that it all flows so freely wild, like the creek, that it all surges in such a free, finged tangle. Freedom is the world’s water and weather, the world’s nourishment freely given, its soil and sap: and the creator loves pizzazz.
    Annie Dillard (b. 1945)

    The land may vary more;
    But wherever the truth may be—
    The water comes ashore,
    And the people look at the sea.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
