Howard Kazanjian - Raiders and Star Wars

Raiders and Star Wars

Kazanjian moved into film production rather than directorial work at Hitchcock's suggestion and is most notable for having served as executive producer on Raiders of the Lost Ark and producer on Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, two of the biggest films of all time.

Kazanjian is recognized as an uncredited producer on Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, replacing producer Gary Kurtz midway through the production.

This is our fate: eight hundred years’ disaster,
crazily tangled like the Book of Kells:

the midnight raiders and the prison cells.

    Find out the peaceful hermitage,
The hairy gown and mossy cell,
Where I may sit and rightly spell
Of every star that heaven doth show,
    And every herb that sips the dew;
    Till old experience do attain
    To something like prophetic strain.
    These pleasures Melancholy give,
And I with thee will choose to live.
    John Milton (1608–1674)

Before now poetry has taken notice
Of wars, and what are wars but politics
Transformed from chronic to acute and bloody?
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
