Howard Greenfield - Personal Life

Personal Life

Greenfield was openly gay, even though during the era in which he lived it was unusual to be open about this. Being openly gay was, however, not entirely uncommon amongst people in the entertainment industry who worked outside the public eye. His companion from the early 1960s to his death was cabaret singer Tory Damon; the two lived together in an apartment on East 63rd Street in Manhattan before moving to California in 1966.

Greenfield died, aged 49, in Los Angeles, California in 1986 from complications due to AIDS. He was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Hollywood Hills). Damon died from AIDS complications just a few days later.

In 1991, Howard Greenfield was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

If society gives up the right to impose the death penalty, then self help will appear again and personal vendettas will be around the corner.
    Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)

It might be seen by what tenure men held the earth. The smallest stream is mediterranean sea, a smaller ocean creek within the land, where men may steer by their farm bounds and cottage lights. For my own part, but for the geographers, I should hardly have known how large a portion of our globe is water, my life has chiefly passed within so deep a cove. Yet I have sometimes ventured as far as to the mouth of my Snug Harbor.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
