Early Life

He was born in South Vietnam on 22 February 1979, Howard Bach came to the U.S. at the age of two, when his father, Cam Sen Bach, emigrated to San Francisco with his family in 1982.

When he was five years old, Howard Bach was brought by his father to the Golden Gate YMCA in San Francisco's Tenderloin District. Bach was a 16-year-old student at Galileo High School when he decided to dedicate himself to the sport of badminton.

During his early years, he was also coached and mentored by USA coach of the year, Dick Ng.

At age 16, he moved to Colorado Springs to train at the U.S. Olympic Site.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

Here is this vast, savage, howling mother of ours, Nature, lying all around, with such beauty, and such affection for her children, as the leopard; and yet we are so early weaned from her breast to society, to that culture which is exclusively an interaction of man on man,—a sort of breeding in and in, which produces at most a merely English nobility, a civilization destined to have a speedy limit.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

We have long forgotten the ritual by which the house of our life was erected. But when it is under assault and enemy bombs are already taking their toll, what enervated, perverse antiquities do they not lay bare in the foundations.
    Walter Benjamin (1892–1940)
