Famous quotes containing the words house, dark and/or shadows:
“At this season I seldom had a visitor. When the snow lay deepest no wanderer ventured near my house for a week or fortnight at a time, but there I lived as snug as a meadow mouse.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“No, they are dark and wrinkled and hairy,
caves of the Moon . . . And when a
dark humming fills us, a
coldness towards life,
we are too much women to
own such unwomanliness.”
—Denise Levertov (b. 1923)
“Should not every apartment in which man dwells be lofty enough to create some obscurity overhead, where flickering shadows may play at evening about the rafters?”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
