House of Bentinck - Possessions

Possessions

The family estate since the 16th century, Schoonheten House, is situated between the villages Heeten and Raalte in Overijssel, Netherlands. The area contains 5 square kilometres of forests and cultivated land. Nowadays, the Bentincks mainly earn their living by forestry, agriculture and renting holiday houses. The British branch of the family owns Bothal Castle (Bothal Estates) in Northumberland and Welbeck Abbey (Welbeck Estates), the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Portland in Notthinghamshire.

Famous quotes containing the word possessions:

We are told it will be of no use for us to ask this measure of justice—that the ballot be given to the women of our new possessions upon the same terms as to the men—because we shall not get it. It is not our business whether we are going to get it; our business is to make the demand.... Ask for the whole loaf and take what you can get.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)

... dependence upon material possessions inevitably results in the destruction of human character.
    Agnes E. Meyer (1887–1970)

Our wisdom lies as much at the mercy of fortune as our possessions do.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)
