Boundaries
Houghton and Washington East contained much of the City of Sunderland. The seat contains the eastern half of the new town of Washington, and the older communities of Houghton-le-Spring, Hetton-le-Hole, Penshaw, Shiney Row, Ryhope and Herrington.
