The game was mostly criticized for its difficulty level. IGN gave the game 6.0/10, saying "It can be difficult, complicated, and relatively uninspired when it comes to the overall out-of-battle experience." Gamespot gave the game 5.0/10, stating "Hoshigami is an overcooked hodgepodge that's too unwieldy for strategy RPG newcomers and too imbalanced for experts." On review aggregator sites Metacritic and Game Rankings, Hoshigami Remix received 55/100 and 57% respectively.
