Hope Fault - Extent

Extent

The Hope Fault branches off from the Alpine Fault south of Hokitika and then runs in a nearly straight line for about 230 km to the east coast of South Island just north of Kaikoura, with an offshore continuation of at least 13 km. It consists of several segments, from the southwest end, the Kelly Fault, then the Hurunui, Hope River, Conway and Seaward segments. It takes its name from the Hope River, which follows the trace of much of the Hope River segment.

Famous quotes containing the word extent:

He who receives an injury is to some extent an accomplice of the wrong-doer.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I expect a time when, or rather an integrity by which, a man will get his coat as honestly and as perfectly fitting as a tree its bark. Now our garments are typical of our conformity to the ways of the world, i.e., of the devil, and to some extent react on us and poison us, like that shirt which Hercules put on.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

To some extent I liken slavery to death.
    Marcus Tullius Cicero (106–43 B.C.)
