Honolulu Police Department - Patrol Vehicles

Patrol Vehicles

As of 2012, the Honolulu Police Department patrol vehicle of choice is the commonly used Ford Crown Victoria. Due to the economical downturn in recent years and rising fuel costs, small fleets of the Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Ford Fusion Hybrid have replaced some of the aging patrol vehicles to help lower the department's budget. Since the hybrid vehicles are still considered a new addition to the patrol fleet it is unsure whether they will replace the discontinued Ford Crown Victoria or remain mixed into the fleet to offset fuel costs.

As Officers progress through their career they are offered a choice to purchase a subsidized vehicle, off a specified list, to use for work and private usage. Officer's with a subsidized vehicle are given a monthly allowance for the purchase and maintenance of the vehicle with fuel provided by the department under certain guidelines. Although subsidized vehicles are unmarked, they can be identified by having a blue dome light or slim LED light bar at the center of the vehicle and are equipped with emergency sirens to be used for on-duty purposes only. The Honolulu Police Department is one of few departments that allow Officers to use subsidized vehicles for patrol usage as it lowers the department's budget compared to having all fleet vehicles.

Famous quotes containing the word vehicles:

Television programming for children need not be saccharine or insipid in order to give to violence its proper balance in the scheme of things.... But as an endless diet for the sake of excitement and sensation in stories whose plots are vehicles for killing and torture and little more, it is not healthy for young children. Unfamiliar as yet with the full story of human response, they are being misled when they are offered perversion before they have fully learned what is sound.
