Fourth Generation
The Autocar magazine of the UK reported that the next generation Civic Type R would be confirmed for production at the Paris motor show in September 2012 and would be previewed at the Geneva motor show in March 2013.
On September 20, 2012, Honda announced that the next generation Civic Type R is indeed in the works and will be released sometime in 2015 around the same time as the NSX. Honda also stated that the goal of the next Civic Type R will be to be the fastest Front Wheel Drive production car on the Nurburgring. Honda CEO Takanobu Ito was quoted in a recent top gear article, "the Civic Type R is more likely to turn turbo. Ito said it will represent the ‘application of technologies developed through Honda’s participation in WTCC’. This isn’t mere marketing fluff, but CEO-speak for ‘the Civic will use a 1.6-litre turbo engine’, developed from Honda’s take on the FIA’s ‘global engine’ specification."
