Homo Oeconomicus - History

History

The journal was founded in 1983 as an occasional series concerned with aspects of the Homo economicus concept (homo oeconomicus). Manfred J. Holler (Professor at the Institute of SocioEconomics, University of Hamburg) is its founding editor.

It began life as a German language publication, but it has published all articles in English since 1998. Holler has said that the mixture of German and English articles had deterred some subscribers, and that subscriptions picked up after the magazine stopped accepting German language submissions.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The principal office of history I take to be this: to prevent virtuous actions from being forgotten, and that evil words and deeds should fear an infamous reputation with posterity.
    Tacitus (c. 55–c. 120)

The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

The history of modern art is also the history of the progressive loss of art’s audience. Art has increasingly become the concern of the artist and the bafflement of the public.
    Henry Geldzahler (1935–1994)
