Famous quotes containing the words home, affairs and/or bureau:
“A baby nurse is one that changes diapers and loves em dearly. Get up at all hours of the night to give em the bottle and change their pants. If the baby coughs or cries, you have to find out the need. I had my own room usually, but I slept in the same room with the baby. I would take full charge. It was twenty-four hours. I used to have one day a week off and Id go home and see my own two little ones.”
—Ruth Lindstrom (c. 1892?)
“Men are the managers of the affairs of women
for that God has preferred in bounty
one of them over another, and for that
they have expended of their property.
Righteous women are therefore obedient,
guarding the secret for Gods guarding.
And those you fear may be rebellious
admonish; banish them to their couches,
and beat them.”
—QurAn. Women 4:38, ed. Arthur J. Arberry (1955)
“We know what the animals do, what are the needs of the beaver, the bear, the salmon, and other creatures, because long ago men married them and acquired this knowledge from their animal wives. Today the priests say we lie, but we know better.”
—native American belief, quoted by D. Jenness in The Carrier Indians of the Bulkley River, Bulletin no. 133, Bureau of American Ethnology (1943)
