Irina Tyk is an honours graduate of the University of London. She has lectured at the University of Wales and the University of St Andrews.

Irina Tyk set up 'The Butterfly Project' in 1991 to teach children to read and to raise educational standards. She is the author of 'The Butterfly Book', a phonic reading course for young children, and 'The Butterfly Grammar' published in 2007/2008. In 2009 Irina Tyk's Education and Culture was published by the Family Education Trust. She is the author of Culture in the Classroom, published by the Centre for Policy Studies. In 2004 she became a founding governor of the New Model School, set up under the auspices of Civitas: Institute for the Study of Civil Society. She appears frequently in the media.
