Famous quotes containing the words hold and/or colour:
“There is one topic peremptorily forbidden to all well- bred, to all rational mortals, namely, their distempers. If you have not slept, or if you have slept, or if you have headache, or sciatica, or leprosy, or thunder-stroke, I beseech you, by all angels, to hold your peace, and not pollute the morning.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
“What a lovely thing a rose is!... Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But the rose is an extra. Its smell and its colour are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras.”
—Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930)
