HMS Tiger (1913) - Design and Description

Design and Description

Tiger was the sole battlecruiser authorised in the 1911–12 Naval Programme, although it has been suggested that a sister-ship named Leopard was to have been begun in the 1912–13 Programme, then was deferred until 1914 as a sixth member of the Queen Elizabeth-class. There is no record however of any additional battlecruiser being provided for in any naval estimates before 1914.

Famous quotes containing the words design and/or description:

If I knew for a certainty that a man was coming to my house with the conscious design of doing me good, I should run for my life ... for fear that I should get some of his good done to me,—some of its virus mingled with my blood.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The next Augustan age will dawn on the other side of the Atlantic. There will, perhaps, be a Thucydides at Boston, a Xenophon at New York, and, in time, a Virgil at Mexico, and a Newton at Peru. At last, some curious traveller from Lima will visit England and give a description of the ruins of St. Paul’s, like the editions of Balbec and Palmyra.
    Horace Walpole (1717–1797)
