Invincible Today
Her wreck was first located by the Royal Navy in 1919. Invincible was blown in half by the midships explosion, and the pieces of the ship rest on a sandy bottom near each other, the stern right-side up and the bow upside-down. The roof of the aft 12 inch turret is missing, the guns still loaded. Photos of the explosion show flame and smoke erupting from 'X' turret and, coupled with the missing turret roof, implies that 'X' magazine also had a low-order explosion. Surveys of the site carried out by nautical archaeologist Innes McCartney in 2000-2003 have shown that the bow half of the wreck is upside-down. "P" and "Q" turrets were located some 50 metres behind the stern section of the wreck and clearly fell out when the ship exploded. She is designated as a protected place under the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986. Mount Invincible in the Canadian Rockies was named after the battlecruiser in 1917.

Famous quotes containing the word today:
“Working women today are trying to achieve in the work world what men have achieved all alongbut men have always had the help of a woman at home who took care of all the other details of living! Today the working woman is also that woman at home, and without support services in the workplace and a respect for the work women do within and outside the home, the attempt to do both is taking its tollon women, on men, and on our children.”
