The Wreck
In August 2003, the M/V Empress located the wreck of the Electra. It is lying on its port side in approximately 160 feet (49 m) of water, completely covered with fishing nets. What is interesting is that she is located nowhere near where the Allied battle maps put her sinking, but is close to where the Japanese battle maps put her.

Famous quotes containing the word wreck:
“And such the trust that still were mine,
Though stormy winds swept oer the brine,
Or though the tempests fiery breath
Roused me from sleep to wreck and death.
In ocean cave, still safe with Thee
The germ of immortality!
And calm and peaceful shall I sleep,
Rocked in the cradle of the deep.”
—Emma Hart Willard (17871870)
“the thing I came for:
the wreck and not the story of the wreck
the thing itself and not the myth
the drowned face always staring
toward the sun”
—Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
