History of Chemical Engineering - Professional Associations

Professional Associations

These early programmes married industrial chemistry with mechanical engineering, with the emphasis most decidedly on engineering. But chemical engineers still needed to clearly define their activity as something more than a mishmash of chemistry and engineering. To emphasize their identity and thus help the growth of their profession, chemical engineers formed the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 1908. The Institution of Chemical Engineers was founded in 1922 and awarded a Royal Charter in 1957. In 1959, the Instituto Mexicano de Ingenieros Quimicos (IMIQ) was founded in Mexico.

Famous quotes containing the words professional and/or associations:

I sometimes wonder whether, in the still, sleepless hours of the night, the consciences of ... professional gossips do not stalk them. I myself believe in a final reckoning, when we shall be held accountable for our misdeeds. Do they? If so, they have cause to worry over many scoops that brought them a day’s dubious laurels and perhaps destroyed someone’s peace forever.
    Mary Pickford (1893–1979)

Hardly a man in the world has an opinion upon morals, politics or religion which he got otherwise than through his associations and sympathies. Broadly speaking, there are none but corn-pone opinions. And broadly speaking, Corn-Pone stands for Self- Approval. Self-approval is acquired mainly from the approval of other people. The result is Conformity.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)
