Hiromichi Mori - Work

Work

He is renowned for a research on the Nihonshoki. He divides the history book into two groups and claims that Group α (Vol. 14-21, 24-27, 30) was documented by native speakers of the Northern Chinese dialect during the Tang Dynasty while Group β (Vol. 1-3, 22-23, 28-29) was written by Japanese. He noticed that Group α is standard written Chinese and applies Chinese characters consistently to Japanese words, but Group β is Japanized Chinese and indiscriminates some characters that were distinguished in Northern Chinese.

He received the 20th Dr Kindati Memorial Award (1992) for Chronicles of Ancient Phonology (古代の音韻と日本書紀の成立』に対して).

Famous quotes containing the word work:

Say what you will, making marriage work is a woman’s business. The institution was invented to do her homage; it was contrived for her protection. Unless she accepts it as such—as a beautiful, bountiful, but quite unequal association—the going will be hard indeed.
    Phyllis McGinley (1905–1978)

The common experience is, that the man fits himself as well as he can to the customary details of that work or trade he falls into, and tends it as a dog turns a spit. Then he is part of the machine he moves; the man is lost.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The poet needs a ground in popular tradition on which he may work, and which, again, may restrain his art within the due temperance. It holds him to the people, supplies a foundation for his edifice; and, in furnishing so much work done to his hand, leaves him at leisure, and in full strength for the audacities of his imagination.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
