- Due to political issues, China has been absent in all International Olympiads held in Taiwan.
What’s more, every year there are students who participate in the National High School Students’ Competition consisting of five science subjects. According to an official estimation, approximately 40 students each year win the first prize and then will be admitted by some top universities in China without taking the National Higher Education Entrance Examination.
As a significant parameter, the number of students admitted by Peking University or Tsinghua University is mostly noticed by public in China to evaluate a senior high school. In 2009, 19 students, one of whom is from senior 2, were admitted by the two most selective universities without taking the National Higher Education Entrance Examination (保送). This figure takes up more than 37% of the whole number of students pre-admitted, or exempted from Higher Education Entrance Examination, in Hunan Province, which is 51.
Ergo, the school is admired all over the nation and regarded enviously as the ‘Cradle of Gold Medals’, which implies its high prestige.
