1980s

In 1980-81 Hibs again faced an Irish squad in the Cup Winners’ Cup, this time Waterford United. Hibs won the first match 1-0 but lost the return leg in Ireland 4-0. In the same season Hibs won their fifth domestic league title.

1981-82 marked the 50th anniversary from the club's foundation. Hibs started the season with matches in the Champions Cup against the Yugoslav team Partizan Belgrade where they lost 1-2 at home and 8-1 away. In the domestic leagues Hibs again achieved success, winning its sixth league title. The club also won its fifth Trophy beating Sliema Wanderers 2-0. This was the first and as yet only time that the club has won the double.

Season 1982-83 kicked off with Champions Cup matches, losing both matches against Polish champions Widzew Łódź 2-1 at home and 3-1 away.

In 1986-87 Hibernians again played in the UEFA Cup against Trakia Plovdiv of Bulgaria. They were soundly beaten 10-0 on aggregate after losing 0-2 at Ta' Qali Stadium and 8-0 in Bulgaria. In the same year Hibs opened their own stadium, the Hibernians Ground at Corradino on the outskirts of Paola.
