Herbicidal Warfare

Herbicidal warfare is a form of chemical warfare in which the objective is to destroy the plant-based ecosystem of an area. Its purpose is to disrupt agricultural food production and/or to destroy plants which provide cover or concealment to an enemy. Herbicidal warfare is now forbidden by the Environmental Modification Convention, which bans "any technique for changing the composition or structure of the Earth's biota".

Famous quotes containing the word warfare:

The chief reason warfare is still with us is neither a secret death-wish of the human species, nor an irrepressible instinct of aggression, nor, finally and more plausibly, the serious economic and social dangers inherent in disarmament, but the simple fact that no substitute for this final arbiter in international affairs has yet appeared on the political scene.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)
