Herbert Shughart

Herbert Shughart is a former US Air Force officer, and the father of Randall Shughart, an American soldier who was killed during the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia, October 3, 1993.

Shughart opposed the conflict and received some media attention in 1994 when, on May 29, he refused to shake hands with President Bill Clinton, during the presentation of a posthumous Medal of Honor for his son's service.

He is currently a member of the Special Forces Association, along with his late son's widow.

Famous quotes containing the word herbert:

Fantasy is a product of thought, Imagination of sensibility. If the thinking, discursive mind turns to speculation, the result is Fantasy; if, however, the sensitive, intuitive mind turns to speculation, the result is Imagination. Fantasy may be visionary, but it is cold and logical. Imagination is sensuous and instinctive. Both have form, but the form of Fantasy is analogous to Exposition, that of Imagination to Narrative.
    —Sir Herbert Read (1893–1968)
