Garden
The Japanese-style garden takes up about half the land area (approx. 33060sq.m). Gardener Jihei Ogawa 7th created the garden over 20 years of period, and the water used in the ponds are provided from the Lake Biwa Canal. It is known that rare species (in Japan) such as the Acheilognathus cyanostigma, Yellow pond turtle and the Japanese pond turtle live around the ponds. Visitors may feed these fish and turtles with food sold around the ponds.

Famous quotes containing the word garden:
“It gets to seem as if way back in the Garden of Eden after the Fall, Adam and Eve had begged the Lord to forgive them and He, in his boundless exasperation, had said, All right, then. Stay. Stay in the Garden. Get civilized. Procreate. Muck it up. And they did.”
—Diane Arbus (19231971)
“Two wooden tubs of blue hydrangeas stand at the foot of the stone steps.
The sky is a blue gum streaked with rose. The trees are black.
The grackles crack their throats of bone in the smooth air.
Moisture and heat have swollen the garden into a slum of bloom.
Pardie! Summer is like a fat beast, sleepy in mildew....”
—Wallace Stevens (18791955)
“We must cultivate our own garden.... When man was put in the garden of Eden he was put there so that he should work, which proves that man was not born to rest.”
—Voltaire [François Marie Arouet] (16941778)
