Heaton Manor School

Heaton Manor School is a 11–18 state comprehensive school in Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne.

The school building, fully rebuilt acrimoniously in 2004 from PFI funding replaced two separate sites (known as the Jesmond and Benton sites) which in turn were made up of a number of different schools. The PFI company, renamed to Vita, in 2007 hit the school with 'fines' of around £764,000 which almost led to the schools closure.

Famous quotes containing the words heaton and/or school:

The spectacle of misery grew in its crushing volume. There seemed to be no end to the houses full of hunted starved children. Children with dysentery, children with scurvy, children at every stage of starvation.... We learned to know that the barometer of starvation was the number of children deserted in any community.
    —Mary Heaton Vorse (1874–1966)

Parental attitudes have greater correlation with pupil achievement than material home circumstances or variations in school and classroom organization, instructional materials, and particular teaching practices.
—Children and Their Primary Schools, vol. 1, ch. 3, Central Advisory Council for Education, London (1967)
