Head of The River Race

The Head of the River Race (HORR) is a processional rowing race held annually on the River Thames in London, England, on the 4.25 mile (6.8 km) Championship Course from Mortlake to Putney.

"My dear boy, you are under a wrong impression. It is not a race, it is merely a means of getting crews to do long rows"

Steve Fairbairn

Famous quotes containing the words head, river and/or race:

    Dead drunk
is the term I think of,
    insensible,
    neither cool nor warm,
without a head or a foot.
To be drunk is to be intimate with a fool.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

but we wish the river had another shore,
some further range of delectable mountains,
    Robert Lowell (1917–1977)

Ah, little road, brown as my race is brown,
Your trodden beauty like our trodden pride,
Dust of the dust, they must not bruise you down.
Rise to one brimming golden, spilling cry!
    Helene Johnson (b. 1907)
