Theme Song
While the weekly show began with an instrumental theme song by the team of Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen, the closing credits during the first eight shows of the inaugural season played the song with lyrics sung by The Modernaires:
- Who's the gal that's everybody's pal, it's Hazel
- She's the one to make the sun begin to glow
- The mailman, the grocer, and even schoolkids know
- It's worth their while to stop and watch that smile
- When Hazel, that Hazel
- When Hazel, that Hazel
- When Hazel says hello
There were different arrangements of the theme song as the series progressed, including a later version by Howard Greenfield and Helen Miller.

Famous quotes containing the words theme and/or song:
“Children became an obsessive theme in Victorian culture at the same time that they were being exploited as never before. As the horrors of life multiplied for some children, the image of childhood was increasingly exalted. Children became the last symbols of purity in a world which was seen as increasingly ugly.”
—C. John Sommerville (20th century)
“The palsy plagues my pulses”
—Unknown. Tom o Bedlams Song (l. 37)
