The Early Years
Prior to 1928 Haydon Wick was part of the Parish of Rodbourne Cheney.
Gas was installed in 1930, electricity arrived in 1939 and sewers came after 1928.
Originally a small village, during the latter part of the twentieth century and continuing today, house building has extended the numbers of properties and areas within the parish considerably. Local areas within the parish now include Haydon Wick, Haydonleigh, Greenmeadow Abbey Meads, Haydon End, Redhouse, Taw Hill and Oakhurst. Some of these areas fall within the Priory Vale northern development.

Famous quotes containing the words early years, early and/or years:
“If there is a price to pay for the privilege of spending the early years of child rearing in the drivers seat, it is our reluctance, our inability, to tolerate being demoted to the backseat. Spurred by our success in programming our children during the preschool years, we may find it difficult to forgo in later states the level of control that once afforded us so much satisfaction.”
—Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
“Quintilian [educational writer in Rome around A.D. 100] thought that the earliest years of the childs life were crucial. Education should start earlier than age seven, within the family. It should not be so hard as to give the child an aversion to learning. Rather, these early lessons would take the form of playthat embryonic notion of kindergarten.”
—C. John Sommerville (20th century)
“Today, almost forty years later, I grow dizzy when I recall that the number of manufactured tanks seems to have been more important to me than the vanished victims of racism.”
—Albert Speer (19051981)
