Hart Side - Summit and View

Summit and View

The summit of Hart Side bears some rock and a number of small cairns have been built. A few yards to the south is a large trench which is believed to be a trial working for the Greenside Mine, presumably unsuccessful. The view is not extensive, being curtailed to the west by the main Helvellyn Range. Ullswater is also seen better from lower down the ridge.

Famous quotes containing the words summit and/or view:

    The light that shined upon the summit now seems almost to shine at our feet.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

    Mine ear is much enamoured of thy note;
    So is mine eye enthrallèd to thy shape;
    And thy fair virtue’s force perforce doth move me
    On the first view to say, to swear, I love thee.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
