Happy Valley, Shanghai
The fourth Happy Valley installation was in Songjiang, Shanghai. It opened on 16 August 2009. The park is approximately 40 kilometers (25 mi) from downtown Shanghai. It covers an area of 863,500 square metres (213.4 acres). Happy Valley contains seven themed areas including Sunshine Beach, Happy Times, Typhoon Bay, Gold Mine Town, Ant Kingdom, Shanghai Beach and Shangri-la Woods. There are more than 100 attractions in the park.
In the beginning of the park's operation, it was criticized for long waiting times and being potentially unsafe. Most of the rides were malfunctioning, the lines were exceedingly long, and many people were injured not only from riding the attractions, but from walking around the park. Three people were injured when a big sign board fell on top of them.

Famous quotes containing the words happy and/or shanghai:
“Dear, why should you command me to my rest,
When now the night doth summon all to sleep?
Methinks this time becometh lovers best;
Night was ordained together friends to keep.
How happy are all other living things,
Which though the day disjoin by several flight,
The quiet evening yet together brings,
And each returns unto his love at night.”
—Michael Drayton (15631631)
“It took more than one man to change my name to Shanghai Lily.”
—Jules Furthman (18881960)
