Hostings

The Hampton Coliseum was also one of several former homes of the American Basketball Association professional basketball franchise Virginia Squires. The Coliseum was also home to the Virginia Wings and Hampton Gulls hockey teams in the American Hockey League and the Hampton Aces of the North Eastern Hockey League and Eastern Hockey League.

The 1987–1989 Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball tournaments were held in the Coliseum, as was the 1985 Sun Belt Conference tourney. The Hampton Coliseum is also the home of the Virginia Duals annual wrestling tournament, hosting invitational college and high school matches.

The Coliseum hosted WWF/WWE RAW, in 1998, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011, as well as numerous other WWE events.

Concerts have included Elvis Presley, Rick James, Prince, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, The Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Phish, TLC, The String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, Further, and the Dave Matthews Band. In February 2012, The Rolling Stones released a bootleg live album (titled "Hampton Coliseum") which was originally recorded there in December 18, 1981.

The Jacksons performed at Hampton Coliseum on July 26, 1981 during their Triumph Tour.

A live Grateful Dead album, Formerly the Warlocks, was recorded at the Hampton Coliseum on October 8–9, 1989. It is known as one of the greatest Grateful Dead shows ever played by many deadheads and tape traders. In order to keep the show low profile, the Grateful Dead was billed as The Warlocks (being their original name in the 1960s). Notable songs included the first performance of Dark Star in 4 years and the first performance of Attics of My Life in 17 years.
