Halifax College is the largest and newest college of the University of York. It was founded in 2001 and is named after Edward Frederick Lindley Wood, the 1st Earl of Halifax.

There is a diverse and vibrant student community with a wide range of events and activities for anyone and everyone. It has a great community spirit, whilst having excellent links between both main university campuses thanks to the UB1 shuttle bus.

The College is situated to the south of the main campus, next to the village of Heslington and the University sports fields.

In 2006/07, Halifax College won the University's College Sport Championship; and successfully held onto the title in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons. They regained the title in the 2010/11 season.

Famous quotes containing the word college:

I never went near the Wellesley College chapel in my four years there, but I am still amazed at the amount of Christian charity that school stuck us all with, a kind of glazed politeness in the face of boredom and stupidity. Tolerance, in the worst sense of the word.... How marvelous it would have been to go to a women’s college that encouraged impoliteness, that rewarded aggression, that encouraged argument.
    Nora Ephron (b. 1941)
