H. Montagu Allan - Early Life

Early Life

Born at Montreal, he was the second son of Sir Hugh Allan of Ravenscrag and Caroline Matilda Smith (1828-1881), the daughter of John Smith (d.1872), of Athelstane Hall, Montreal, and his wife Betsy Rae. From 1878 he was known as H. Montague Allan to avoid confusion with his cousin Hugh Andrew Allan (1857–1938). Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

For the writer, there is nothing quite like having someone say that he or she understands, that you have reached them and affected them with what you have written. It is the feeling early humans must have experienced when the firelight first overcame the darkness of the cave. It is the communal cooking pot, the Street, all over again. It is our need to know we are not alone.
    Virginia Hamilton (b. 1936)

After all, life hasn’t much to offer except youth and I suppose for older people the love of youth in others.
    F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896–1940)
